Idiot of the Day: Doug Ford

This is a work in progress, as it seems like Doug is doing stupid things weekly.

Dumb Things Doug Did (as of 2025-12-05):

• Stripping protections from environmentally senstive wetlands in Wasaga Beach so the property can be sold to developers. Are you seeing a pattern with ol' Doug here?
• Waging war on cyclists, pedestrians, city planners, people who hate congestion, people who think speeders should pay fines instead of everyone paying to modify our neighbourhoods in hope that speeders slow down
• Writing off or destroying $1.4B worth of PPE that we probably could have used during the worst of the COVID pandemic.
• Treating the Ontario Skills Develioment Fund like the PC's own persional $2.5B piggy bank to hand out to their friends and dentists.
• Licence plates you can't read ($1.15M)
• Gas Pump Stickers That Don't Stick ($5k w/o shipping and administration -- ruled 'unconstitutional')
• Social Distancing Bracelets ($2.5M)
• Allowing Private Clinics to Charge for OHIP-Covered Surgeries (at least $60M)
• Changing the Size of Toronto City Council DURING The Election Period
• Buck-A-Beer (nearly Zero Impact, except for possibly raising the average price of beer by 10%)
• Cancelled Renewable Energy Contracts ($231M)
• "Open For Business" ($106k for Provincial signs, but cost of STUPID slogan everywhere? Priceless.)
• Shutting down Pickering WHILE Introducing a Moratorium on new Gas Plants (Never Mind -- Doug wants more Gas Plants DESPITE Green Energy Transition Plans)
• Stealing Ontario Place and Giving it to a Foreign Spa Company ($700M+ to subsidise a private, foreign enterprise)
  UPDATED! Per NYT, it looks like it's not even the real Therme
• Building a 400 Series Highway No One Wants (more than $4B)
• Putting the 400 Series Highway everyone uses UNDERGROUND (anywhere from 1-1.7 BILLION dollars per KILOMETRE of highway as of 2025)
• Using 'Not Withstanding' for Back to Work Legislation, though he was succesfully cowed into backing out
• Using 'Not Withstanding' to Silence Unions Come Election Time
• Subsidizing Enbridge Despite Ontario Moving Away from Fossil Fuels ($2B)
• Selling Beer & Ready-To-Drink Beverages in Corner Stores and Grocery Stores ($225M -- possibly up to $1B in monies removed from the provincial coffers)
• Requiring ONLY Large Grocery Stores to Participate in Container Recycling for the above (and they don't want to do it!)
• Trying to Steal the Greenbelt Land and Give it to his Buddies (an $8B increase in the value of that land, had they gotten away with this one)
• Inflating the Cost to Repair the Science Centre (Overstated Costs by $200M)
• EMERGENCY press conference to close the Science Centre RIGHT NOW (except they needed a week to plan the comms strategy)
• 
• Trying to Steal the Science Centre Land and give it to his Buddies*
• Underspent the Budget by $8B and Went Hat-In-Hand to the Feds for More Healthcare Money
• Cutting funding for COVID prevention; promising funding for Long COVID care
• Cutting funding for Long COVID care
• Not Consulting First Nations on... Well, Anything, Despite Legal Requirements To Do So
• Bullshit, Corrupt Procurement Processes
• Requiring Ontario Teachers -- People with FAR more Education than, say, the Premier -- to take a Math test, even if they don't teach math
• Taking every chance he gets to literally cut ads for Loblaw, Tim Hortons, Buying Liquor Somewhere Other Than the LBCO
• Joking that if you're waiting for an MRI in the healthcare system he broke, you could try a veterinarian
• Closing Supervised Consumption and Injection Sites, a move that will literally kill Ontarians (Dec 2025 -- Toronto Drop-In Network already reporting over 300% increase in overdoses at their sites, where they don't have people trained to deal with that as well as you would have at a SCS)
• Waging War on Bike Lanes, for some dumbass reason.
